Having worked on the DDR app for 18 months as the UX designer, In February 2024, I was tasked with creating design mock ups to improve on the current used car dashboard. The project lead wanted something more dynamic and functional. As I pondered how it could be improved I soon realized that rather than just having it as a place where dealers could flip cars into there name, why not allow them to use it for managing inventory. This would especially beneficial to the used car dealers who were using spreadsheets top manage their inventory.

The dashboard would now become the ‘vehicle inventory centre’ and would provide the dealership with
statistics  relating to sales, trade-ins and transactions. Overall, the dashboard would provide information that would empower dealerships to make informed decisions, improve efficiency, and enhance customer service, all of which contribute to a better overall user experience.

Trade-in centre dashboard concept mock-up.

All dealers that reviewed the screens felt that they would be helpful to manage incoming and outgoing vehicles. The table received high praise with all of the sujects covered in the columns. One dealership thought that ‘fuel type’ could be added.

The tabs allow the user to easily choose what specific type of vehicle that they want to view from passenger vehicle, to light commercial and heavy commercial.

From the initial review of the screens dealerships felt that we were going above what they had expected from the DDR app. Some had even questioned why we were doing this. All in all the Vehicle inventory centre would provide welcomed functionality to dealerships using DDR.
